Task 8: Evaluate The Adverts

M3 (Unit 20): Explain How The Created Media Compoments Comply With The Codes And Conventions Of The Media Sector.

There are different ways in which each of the adverts comply with the codes and conventions of the media sector.

To start off, the magazine advert complies with mainly the slogan and logo. The slogan is the key to people knowing our brand and what we associate ourselves with. This is good because it also keeps with consistency other adverts that we may put out. We have followed this on the magazine as it is used on the top of the advert so when people see the advert they see the image and they they look to read it and read the slogan first as people read things from the top of the page to the bottom.

The logo is the most important convention that will be used because the logo is on every single part of the business. This is included on the can, every advert, powerpoint, paperwork etc. This is done well on the magazine as we have it put on multiple times coming out of the can so that it is the first thing that people will notice when they look at the advert.

We have also kept to a certain colour scheme which is mainly based off of the colour red as it is the same colour as the can and we can relate it to strawberries which is the flavour of the drink that we are trying to promote to the audience in order for them to purchase and drink the drink.

There are different effects for each of these codes and conventions as they all do different things. The slogans is able to let the person think about what it means and see how it feels when they drink the drink, the logo stays in their mind so when they see something that may look similar, they will purchase our drink and the colour scheme can be related to our company whenever it is seen by someone in the target audience.

The research that I did behind all of the advertisement helped me with this as the key to magazine adverts is a lot of things that stand out to give a reason for people to not quickly flip past the page and actually take an interest in the advert and give it some thought.

The billboard advert that we made was able to follow the same codes and conventions that the magazine advert did but in a different way and style.

To start off, we used a different scheme of colour as we made the background of the billboard white. The reason that we did this is because we wanted the logo that we put in the middle of the advert to really stand out. This was mainly because people will often be driving when they see the advert which means that they will not be able to look and focus on the advert for a long time and we need to get the point across, by doing this, we could make sure that they can clearly see what the logo is as it is a much darker colour than the background and would clearly stand out. The colour scheme and logo were used together here when following the codes and conventions because in our research, we were able to find that if the colours were too similar, we would not be able to fully recognise the logo the next time that we see it because we would expect a bigger logo and not such an obvious one.

We were able to again out the slogan at the top of the billboard in contrasting colours to the background, this also helps the audience see the slogan when looking at the billboard even if it is for a short about of time. It also helps the consistency of adverts by keeping them all similar in parts but different in individual ways.

We also added the website in large text at the bottom of the billboard so we were able to be found if people were interested in finding out more information. This convention made sure that the brand that we are advertising for were happy with the information that we have put on the billboard ad.

The video advert that we made was able to use different codes and conventions to the magazine and billboard ads. We did include the logo and slogan but we also used Mise En Scene.

Mise En Scene was used as we based our advert in a cafe so that people would think that yes it is a standard drink but we were able to place it in the middle of all the drinks and select it so that it does still stand out over the other drinks. We are able to make sure that the drink is the main focus of the advert by following the object throughout the advert and at the end the drink was drunk by the actor.

The actor then read out the slogan for everyone to see and hear which meant that we kept up with the consistency of things and then the logo was put up on the screen. This is so that everyone that sees the advert is able to know what it is about and can also spot that it is similar to the adverts in the magazines and billboards and they are the same product being advertised in different ways.
