Learning Outcome 1 (Unit 24): Understand The Products That Are Produced Within And Across Media Industries.
P2 (Unit 24): Explain The Use Of Converging Technologies Within An Identified Sector.
M1: Discuss How The Industry Has Utilised Developments In Technologies
Digital Marketing:
Social media and marketing channels that are used by media industries include Twitter, Instagram, FaceBook, viral teasers and websites are different types of digital marketing. This use of digital marketing has massively increased in the past few years due to so many more people being dependant on technology.
This has helped different campaigns do better than they normally do as they are able to engage with a wider audience every year as more people are using the internet and social media etc to browse and then they see adverts for marketing and then are able to just click it and it comes up with the website for the company that are marketing their products that the person clicked on.
Video on Demand Distribution:
This has increased rapidly with the use of Netflix, Sky Go and hundreds of other applications that are easy to use and download nowadays for people to watch anything anywhere they want to. This is so that the companies are able to raise money and sell more products to people that may not have originally bought them because they couldn't always just sit at home and watch TV, now, people can download their favourite programs or films onto an app on their laptop or tablet with a tap of a button.
Production Technology:
By companies using amazing technology such as 4K cameras, they are able to make sure their adverts are extremely clear and very defined product shots. This could then make people have higher thoughts of the company as they are taking time out to get the best shots of their products. However, 4K cameras and operating systems that can put out 4K pictures are very expensive which means that it may be very hard to be able to justify spending that money for a photoshoot and even if it is getting someone who has that equipment already it would be expensive for them to take the photos and edit them as well.
Convergent Technology:
This is used to be able to view the content that is being brought out from the advertising industry as they are able to advertise more because of convergent technology. For example, nowadays, there are more and more apps that can be used to put advertisement on and having people be able to watch videos of their phone, they can have 5 minutes worth of ads for a thirty minute video. This means that if streaming grows, so will a massive sector of the advertising company as more people will see their adverts.
QR Codes:
QR codes enable people to scan a square individual barcode type of code with their smartphone's camera and then the smartphone then notices it and scans a link from it. This link can then be clicked on which means that whatever the QR code wanted them to look up, they are able to do it within a matter of seconds. This is good to use as it takes up less space on the page and quicker to scan rather than using a link. This shows a convergence of technology by using the internet and the camera on a mobile phone. This is good because soon enough, there will be many different companies just using QR codes rather than putting links on their leaflets, magazine ads, leave it for a while on a video ad or even on a billboard. Additionally, including a QR code can redirect consumers to the products website or a website that sells the product which maximises products.
